Services for 10th Graders
For 10th graders, college is only a few short years
away. Most college applications are due in fall of the senior year, before grades come out.
That means that college admissions personnel look very carefully at the courses chosen, and grades earned,
in a student's sophomore
and junior years to determine whether the student can thrive in the academic climate at their school.
College Prep Counseling's consultations for 10th grade students
and their families consist of several meetings with the student
and family, research and information gathering on behalf of the
student, plus phone and email contact throughout the year. Consultations will consist of the following:
- Overview of what colleges will be looking for in the student? high school experiences
- Review of the student? academic record to date
- Advice on selection of college preparatory academic courses for remainder of high school
- In-depth interview with student to determine student interests and
to recommend related extracurricular activities and leadership roles
- Recommendations for specific summer activities related to the student? interests
- Advice on making the most of college fairs and college information nights
- Testing recommendations (when to schedule, which to take, whether test prep is needed)
- Consultation regarding student? study habits, and advice on how those might be improved
in order to increase the student? grade point average, if improvement is needed
- Strategies for developing student? conversational skills as early interview preparation
