Services for 12th Graders

Ideally, the actual college search and application process begins in the second semester of 11th grade. College Prep Counseling's consultations for second-semester 11th graders and for 12th graders consist of multiple meetings with the student and family, research and information gathering on behalf of the student, and phone and email contact throughout the year until the high-school graduation date. Areas to be covered include:

  • Overview of higher-education terminology, options, and the application process
  • Family interview to determine student and parent(s) college expectations and aspirations
  • Preparation of a carefully researched list of colleges that fit the student's academic, social, and career goals
  • Step-by-step action plan for student completion of admission and financial aid applications
  • Brainstorming of potential application essay topics and review of the final essays
  • Detailed review of student-prepared admission applications
  • Recommendations for visiting and evaluating campuses
  • Practice for admissions interviews, if needed
  • Consultation with family to weigh admissions and financial aid offers from colleges, if requested
  • Recommendations for preparing for a successful first year at college
